At Heimat Review, our mission is to provide a home for poetry, prose, and art. We believe that language—narratives, questions, and reflections—offers a vibrant way to explore where we come from, where we are, and where we hope to be. 
We submit to all major independent literary awards and strive to maintain an inclusive space—a safe home for diverse voices from across the globe.
Home (Heimat) is not just a location. It is a place of being, where we find the center of ourselves. It is the moment in time when we reflect on who we are, where we are, and where we hope to be. In the spirit of that reflection, Heimat Review offers a space for writers and artists to tell the stories of their homes, communities, histories, and futures.

Hannah Cole Orsag
Founder and Editor-in-Chief

Hannah Cole Orsag is a writer and educator from Toronto, Ontario and Athens, Georgia. Her roots are in the southern Appalachian foothills, and she found and built her family in the northern greenspaces of Toronto. Her poems, creative nonfiction, and writer interviews can be found in Searching for Marvels, Emerge Literary Journal, and Dust Poetry Magazine, among others.

To all the lovely readers and submitters of Heimat, 

Thank you for your support and commitment to our journal!

Creating this magazine has been one of the hardest and yet most rewarding things I've ever done. It's hard to not be able to perfect everything. I'm still finding typos in my emails, and I won't always make the call you want about your piece. But, I have read it, thought about it, considered it. Even if your lovely piece was not selected for an issue, that is not a sign to put your work on a shelf and forget it. It merely did not fit with the vision of the issue, may have needed more revision, or numerous other things. Perhaps we received something else very similar and had already sent an acceptance for that first piece. Other times, we ask you to revise and resubmit (and we mean it too!). You are always welcome to resubmit pieces that have been declined for another issue. Many of these pieces you will read in our issues are revisions that submitters have taken us up on and have received acceptances.

Whether you are a high school student, 90 years old, have ten full collections, or have never been published before, we want to hear from you. My aim with this literary journal is to share well-told, thoughtful stories that prompt us to think more deeply about our own lives and stories. So, please, send us your writing, your paintings and photographs. Tell us a good story. No matter our decision on your submission, we care about your writing, your voice, your readership. One day, your work will be the right fit at the right place. Don't give up. Reread, revise, reorganize, and keep submitting.
